• Performance Monitor - The performance monitor of the S-500 tracks distance, time, calories burned, number of strokes, strokes per minute, calories per hour, watts, interval training, and heart rate. It's easy to use the S-500 for heart rate training; simply add the First Degree Fitness Heart Rate Receiver to your order and plug it into the S-500 when you work out.
• Easy-Adjust Resistance System - All First Degree Fitness rowers add a terrific user-friendly dimension to traditional water resistance: easy manual adjustment. Where many water-based rowers adjust by a complicated multi-step process of adding or removing water from the tank, First Degree Fitness rowers use a patented dual-chamber technology that adjusts with one easy step. Simply twist a manual lever to control how much water flows from the inner storage chamber to the outer impeller chamber; the more water in the outer chamber, the harder your workout. The S-500 features 20 levels of resistance to help you select the perfect intensity for your training.
• >Size, Storage, and Sound - If you need to fit a commercial-grade workout in a tight space, you'll appreciate the design of the S-500. At 30 in. wide but just under 75 in. in length, it's one of the most compact rowers to offer a full-sized stroke to fit all users. Home users should note that it's still a big model for many living rooms and bedrooms. Although it does have built-in transport wheels and a great folding feature that helps if you have to store it, it's still heavy enough to discourage you from moving it around. • Footrest - Unique heel support system is instantly adjustable for foot size; an easy single-handed adjustment system allows you to adjust both feet simultaneously. Gentle pressure is applied to the back of the foot, ensuring that it stays in place throughout the movement. Durable, replaceable rubber inserts add extra comfort and grip whether you row in sneakers, socks, or bare feet.
• Resistance Type - Water resistance costs more, and it's worth it for people who cherish its real-life sound and sensation of paddles moving through water. Machines with water resistance tend to be heavier, sturdier, and longer than other rowers. Since they're harder to move around and put into storage, they generally include design elements. In other words, they'll look good when you leave them out in the open.
• Cadence Coach - The First Degree Fitness brand's water-resistance system is dependent on a training feature called the Cadence Coach, which pushes the user to maintain a minimum stroke rate to keep the water circulating against the momentum of the flywheel. Choose a resistance level against which you can maintain the Cadence Coach stroke rate (about 20-24 strokes per minute). If you find it difficult, simply lower the resistance level until you feel comfortable.
