The product is amazing... truely increadible. I looked around for different row machines and this one was the best bang for the buck. Sure you can spend more and get something that might be a bit better from the aspect that you can adjust the resistance. This gets the job done though and for under [$] bucks you are not going to find antoher row machine that is metal construction, no plastic, wood foot petals, excellent product. I get home late from work, to 15 minutes in my garage on the bench press and free weights and finish on this for 45 minutes while watching TV. Solid construction, metal frame, great action on the seat and the rower itself. Excellent buy.

This is great for the casual user that wants to diversify their workout. It won't do it all, and it'll likely break if you try, but for an introductory piece of equipment, that complements other pieces, it's a good buy. It's large and storage seems awkward at best (I just found a place and left it set up). On it 15-20 min. every other day at a rate of 26-29. Seems to handle that OK.

I was worried by some of the complaints I've read in various reviews but the price was to good to pass up as a first time test. [...]The product assembled easily (except for the bolts up front near the fan which required a long stemmed ratchet to reach and tighten)with no missing pieces. At first I was a little bit leery of the quality of the material used to make the rower but its quite sturdy. The electronic meter does not work but I'm working on a timing system anyway so it does not matter. I weigh 255 and have not had a single problem so far (fingers crossed). I use the rower 30 minutes five times a week and I feel I got a good bargain.

This is a very useful machine for the affordability it gives. It has a smooth chain extension. And though the fan is loud, it does cool you as you exercise. The seat could be a bit larger, but perhaps that's part of the motivation. ;)

Should have a set up manual indication that oiling of the fan / sprocket bearings is required (I was afraid they might be nylon / plastic bearings and was reluctant to oil them). WD40 cured my chain rewind problem.

I bought this mainly for the cardio workout. And it does deliver on that. The rower has maybe 20 hours of use on it and I've already switched around the cheap plastic rollers that have shattered on the seat carriage. I had a little trouble with the chain not being on correctly when I received it, so I had to take the wheel casing apart and adjust it, but otherwise it works great. You can really feel it whether you get full extension or not. It has good resistance. And you don't even notice the seat is a bit uncomfortable once you get going.

Two problems: one, the resistance is too strong for me which limits my time as it tires me sooner than others I've used (I only weigh 115 lbs) - not sure if there's a way to adjust it.

Two - one of the two wheels that glides on the bar has a manufacturing flaw and is disintegrating. We need a replacement. If it weren't for this, I would recommend it to others.

I spend about 13 minutes three times a week (2.5 miles each, about 38 strokes per minute) for general exercise/cardio maintenance. Construction is sturdy and there have been no breakdowns in the 9 months I have used it. The only complaint I have is that the stroke counter frequently doesn't count, and that affects the distance count as well. The magnetic counter seems to want excessive foot movement to get a good reading, and that requires more of a leg/knee/ankle bend than I think it should. No type of adjustment seems to be of any benefit for this counter.

Holds up very well after one year of hard use. Monitor is starting to have problems - it doesn't keep an accurate count of the strokes - but distance and time are still working. I got what I paid for. I wanted a Concept II but was unwilling to shell out for it. This is a good deal as long as you manage your expectations and actually use this machine regularly.

if you get a blister on your bottom from rowing...just add a layer of clothes. i was just wearing spandex workout gear and continually got a blister high in the center to the left. i added underwear to the mix and stopped getting the blister. :)

I bought this for my father-in-law for his rehab following bilateral knee replacement surgery in July, 2007. I have used this machine a couple of times on the occasions of visiting him. I own a Concept 2, Model D and while this doesn't match up to the Model D, I think it matches up favorably to the Model B except that you can't really change the resistance. Still, it will give you a good workout. My father-in-law still uses this nearly every day and a year after his knee surgery, he seems younger and more fit than he did 10 years ago.
I might buy one for our second home at the beach. I do a cardio workout every day but it is sometimes too hot (or rainy or stormy or buggy) to run in the summer here in Florida.

I've had the machine for over a year now - it's a great general workout and functions much like any other erg, but the one drawback that I would point out is that it puts out much faster times than you would expect because of the lower, non-variable level of resistance that it provides. If you use it for same machine comparison only, though, it's a great tool for overall fitness, form development (just like any other erg), and a nice cool breeze coming off the wheel to circulate the air in the room :). I'd give the machine an A for overall value for price, and a B- for computer output.

The original seat wheels are too soft and began breaking apart immediately. Company sent free replacements, but they did the same. The seat is too stiff to be used without added cushioning. The fan is positioned too low, so my legs always feel like they are in the way of the chain/handle. I like the expensive equipment from a local gym, but this was not a comparable substitute. Well Duh on me!

The overall machine would be great if it were just a bit longer in the movement. Compared to the one at the club I use, this does not have the overall full stroke, so consequently you come up short with the exercise.

I was disappointed in my purchase because I am too strong for this machine. It does not have enough resistance Frankly, it's suitable for the elderly. I have used it infrequently due to its limited resistance. I wish I had read the product information more closely. I love rowing machines but I need one that is at least as strong as I am. Great machine!My husband and I both found it easy to operate. It has a nice smooth glide and although it isn't super quiet it's not very loud either. Since I am short it took a few times to adjust the foot peddles to where it was comfotable, but now it's great.

I really like this machine. Since hurting my foot I've been unable to run and this has been a great alternative. I like the upper body/back/stomach workout it gives at the same time. At 6'1" I find it just a little bit too short as I would be able to get another 1-2" of reach if the machine were a bit longer (distance from the seat in fully forward position to where the handle meets the flywheel housing). My wife complains about the noise "vrrrrooo... vwuuu, vrrrrooo... vwuuu". I'm adding on 5 minutes to my time every week and will hit a full hour shortly, that said I miss there not being a tension adjustment (damper I think they call it), but for the price it's great as the next step up in features is almost [$]. I row for about 20 minutes two to three times a week. My wife also uses the rower somewhat less than that. The ATS is an excellent budget priced rower. I've used more expensive "pro" rowers at the gym, and they are more solid and quieter, but they're also over $1000. I was surprised at how solid this one was. My only complaint is that it can be somewhat noisy, but I also think that you would have to pay at least twice as much to get a noticeably quieter rower. This is perfect for someone to use regularly but not hours every day.

Difficult to put together--helps if you have small hands and the directions are not that clear. After using it for a year, it works fine, need lubrication and one of the movable parts is nearly split in half. Very good if you only use it once or twice a week. While the basic components went together with a little effort, the 'control panel' was incomplete (with unintelligible directions), suggesting poor quality control. This has been an effective conditioner with daily use for a year or more, but recently collapsed (front support) out of nowhere (i expect to be able to put it back together). Given the reasonable price, it's a reasonable machine if you have reasonable expectations.

After being a member of a gym I really saw the benefits of a row machine. This machine can't be beat for the price. It does have its drawbacks but if taken care of you should have many years of usage. My main complaint is the seat backing where it attaches. Whatever material it is is not strong enough. One day I shifted my weight to one side of the seat and heard a crack. For now its still holding but eventually I'll have to remove the seat and fashion a backing for it to make it stronger. Other problem I had was the chain became detached from the handle somehow and that was a pain to fish it out of the metal cage part. Now I just make sure I check the attaching nut periodically to make sure it stays put. Rowing is great exercise and this is a pretty good alternative to spending over 1000.00 for one.

I like the machine, but I'm still reparing it. A child - 5yrs stood on the seat and broke it. Wood base interior. The replacement seat doesn't fit. Still retrofitting the new model seat. Electronics are a bit inaccurate...off by about 5%. I do like the machine thought.

In hindsight, I would opt to spend more to get a rower with smoother operation. The Stamina is noisy and the lightweight flywheel/wind resistance lose momentum, sot he operation does not simulate rowing well. I plan to upgrade.

I absolutely love this rower. Several years ago I was attending a fitness class that my doctor recommended. They had great rowing machines and I was able to lose a lot of weight using them along with other machines. After that class, I'd used other rowers but nothing compared to the one in that class. i was using an eliptical and pilates very regularly....at least 3 days per week. my upper body just didn't get enough excercise directly. i have come down from a D to a C cup size in one month using the rower 3 or 4 days a week for 15 minutes in addition to my normal workout. thank you!

The Stamina 1400 is easy to set-up and has a small enough foot print to be placed within a small home gym area. One of the things I like about the machine is that no matter how much stronger and faster I become, the machine provides an even harder workout thanks to the fan resistance.

My only complaints would be the computer and the drive mechanism. The drive chain will sometimes grind, halt, then over slack and grind again. The mainframe is also too short, but if you are working out in a small area that is a compromise that has to be considered and overlooked.

I use this rowing machine 5 times a week. My goals are cardio health, fitness and strength. It's a good overall workout with the feel of a nice, healthy stretch. I like the feel and smoothness, and the little breeze the wheel generates is most welcome. :) The only thing I would like to add to it is the ability to increase the arm tension.

Being an air resistance rower, it is a bit noisy, but not out of line. I expect to use it for years, and it seems sturdy enough to last that long. Getting the seat tension right on the rail takes a few trys.

This is the first and only piece of exercise equipment I have purchased and it is one of the best investments I have ever made. I am 70 years old, have always been active and want to stay that way. I set up this equipment when it arrived and have not taken it down since, I use it alternately with walking/running. This is a great way to maintain an all around fitness level and in addition it is good way to for women my age to strengthen our bones. The thing I like best is that this is absolutely enjoyable to use -- not something I do because I have to or ought to ... I look forward to it.

The equipment itself was very easy to set up and maintenance is really minimal -- once it was in place I have not had to worry about moving it or worry about it moving.

So happy I bought this -- if anything should happen to it, I would replace it in a heartbeat.

I use my rower 3 times a day in 15 minute segments which has helped build my stamina and strengthen my heart. It also strengthens my arms, shoulders and legs just what I needed after having a stroke.

The great thing about my rower is you can go as slow or as fast as you like...whatever your mood. When I listen to opera I row slow and easy, when listening to rock-n-roll I crank it up.

I do not have one negative thing to say about my rower. Keeping it cleaned and oiled has kept it good as new.

I use it for general fitness training because I recently go a bit of arthritis is my foot and cannot run or use cross trainers or tread mills. It is not as smooth as the one at my gym but I did not pay $2000 for it. It is a bit noisy but I am now used to it.

Bought this machine after college since I couldn't find a good rowing machine at any of the gyms I could afford memberships to; no match for a university's rec center. This machine wasn't my first choice, and you wouldn't find one this inexpensive in any reputable gym anyway. That being said, it is an adequate piece of equipment for the typical "home gym". Instructions were by no means great, but few products' are anymore. An extra pair of hands will help during assembly. The onboard computer and sensor systems do not always work and require frequent adjustment. It's really more productive to row at a set pace for an increment of time than to use the stroke counter.

I really like the product HOWEVER the foot straps are designed for people with big feet (men). I wear a women's size 8 shoe - which is not very small but depending on what shoes I wear the foot straps frequently fall off & I have to stop because the foot straps are important. For someone with longer feet this is not an issue. I don't use this machine as often as I had hoped due to this problem.

I have owned this piece for over two years. It is exactly what you pay for. Cheaply built and constructed. Do not expect a smooth fluid motion. The biggest thing that drives me nuts is that fact that the fan wheel is slightly off balance/crooked. When you get the fan going this causes the entire cage/fan to shake and it becomes rather annoying. I will spend the extra coin to get an upper level brand on my next purchase.

An excellent machine for the price at replicating the actual drag of water pulling. It responds to your effort in pulling with its resistance. It is noisy as can be and thus prevents use in most places where noise is an issue (e.g. apartments). The computer is simple but effective. Probably wouldn't buy it again, but only because of the noise.

I use this rower 3 times a week for 10 minutes/2 miles each time. Harder workout? Just move faster. As with all air resistance workout equipment, it is rather loud, so listening to TV in a smaller room is out of the question. Earbuds, however, work just fine.

It was easy to setup right out of the box with no additional tools. So far I have been using the machine for two weeks (so I cannot comment on its durability). It has been the right machine to get me back into shape. I am a former athlete that fell out of shape. This is the perfect low impact exercise machine to get me feeling like I can do more. I mainly use my rowing machine as a warm-up device for weight training. It is a solid performer that provides a good alternative to a treadmill or exercise bike. Remember, with rowing machines, you really get what you pay for.I bought this one because I had already destroyed two of the "air piston" type rowers in my lifetime, and wanted something that performed like a Concept II, but without the high price tag. I am a triathlete who needs a good rowing machine in the winter when my pool is closed.This is NOT a Concept II, but it IS very effective at what it is designed to do. The display is neanderthal easy, and the resistance level is appropriate. I am not sure how long this machine will last - I use it like a rented mule every other day for 30 minutes.I would recommend it to anyone who is already serious about rowing, but too cheap to shell out for a top-of-the-line machine. I like the unit but the chain operation is very noisey, forces one to raise volume of TV or music to very loud level. Otherwise, a good general exercise machine considering the price. Also, hard to contact manufacturer as no 800 line provided in packaged materials. Wanted advice as to how I might be able to reduce chain noise. This is a terrific rowing machine. I bought this for my father in law to help him recover from bilateral knee replacement surgery. It helped him tremendously to get his strength and range of motion back.
Now he uses it every day and my mother in law enjoys it too. They are both in their 80s!
I own a Concept 2, Model D rower and I think this one compares favorably to it.

Nice, affordable way to get into rowing. You have to crank the tunes to drown out the noise, tho, and the seat is junk... it is padded around the edges but not on the butt bones - what the....???? You would figure that the seat would get the most attention to detail as you SIT when rowing, but they missed the mark here. Other than the seat - it might get 5 stars for the value/price.

I use this on an almost daily basis for at least 30 minutes. It is good for that. It would be great if the seat were comfortable and the rollers worked well and did not erode. If this machine were getting used 2 hours a day, I might expect some wear. But I have only had the machine a year and the rollers have almost disintegrated. I also have to replace a wire that broke when trying to fold the machine (as instructed)to move it to a new location. I like the machine for cardio, but I would really have to work hard and long to see real results on its own.

Excellent value for the price. HOWEVER, if you are looking for a CONCEPT II at the Stamina ATS price, you will be disappointed. NO disrespect intended, but as they say "you get what you pay for". For economic value or for one who is not sure they wish to make rowing a regular part of their exercise plan, this is perfect. I started using my rower about 2 months ago. Bought it for my birthday. I have not changed my eating habits much, but have lost 2 inches so far. My weight.... I don't know, I don't really track that. I just want to fit into my pants again.

Only 2 things I don't really like about it are 1:that it blows air in my face with every stoke, but I just turn up the music and close my eyes and 2:you never really DO anything, just pull the chain over and over.

All in all, though, very pleased with the results. Still use it almost every day.

The ATS 1400 is a great economy air rowing machine. It performs just as well as the ones at my local YMCA. It doesnt have adjustable resistance, but the stock level of resistance is perfect. It was easy to assemble and delivered on what the description said on the website. Very sturdy design. I would recommend this to my friends or anyone interested in an economy air rower.
